Germany Arrests Belarusian Suspects Over Alleged Russian Sabotage
Investigators suspect the men were responsible for setting fire to a defense firm's facilities at an industrial park in the Romanian city of Brasov on September 14.
Security sources cited in reports also allege that the suspects were preparing additional sabotage operations in Germany, including planned fires near railway infrastructure and a power transmission route in the Nuremberg region.
Romania's intelligence service reportedly concluded that the two men were connected to an espionage and sabotage network operating under Moscow's direction.
A court in Bucharest subsequently issued European arrest warrants for both suspects, who had already spent several weeks in German custody.
The investigation is being handled by Bavaria's Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism, which is examining the alleged operations and the suspects' possible involvement.
The arrests come amid a series of suspected sabotage incidents across Europe that authorities have linked to Russia.
Among the most serious cases under investigation in Germany was an incident on August 4 at Leipzig Airport, where a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft was reportedly targeted by a drone.
The German government publicly attributed responsibility for the drone attack to Moscow.
