Trump Invites Germany to Join "Board of Peace" for Gaza

(MENAFN) The United States has extended an invitation to Germany to participate in a newly formed international "Board of Peace" designed to address the ongoing Gaza crisis, German officials confirmed Monday.

Stefan Cornelius, a government spokesman, acknowledged the diplomatic outreach during a press briefing. "The US has invited Germany, among other countries, to participate in building an international Board of Peace. We are grateful for this invitation," Cornelius stated. He emphasized Berlin's commitment to the initiative's objectives, saying, "We share the goal of serving peace in the world. We particularly want to help permanently resolve the Gaza conflict."

The proposed peace framework forms a central component of US President Donald Trump's broader strategy for the Middle East. The White House unveiled the initiative Friday, describing the Board of Peace as instrumental in executing the president's 20-point blueprint for ending hostilities in Gaza and establishing enduring peace, security, and economic development throughout the region.

Questions emerged regarding potential Russian involvement after reports surfaced suggesting Trump had also approached Russian President Vladimir Putin about joining the peace board. When pressed on whether Germany would accept membership if Moscow participates, Cornelius avoided providing a concrete commitment.

"Germany's core interest is to permanently resolve the Gaza conflict. That's the ambition we share. We will examine other aspects and remain in close contact with our partners regarding this," he explained, noting that Berlin intends to determine its level of participation following comprehensive discussions with European Union allies and other international stakeholders.
